The view was exceptional. The room was lovely. New and well equipped. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We accidentally left a shirt in the room and Salvo was extremely kind to post it to us, without charge. It is a bit of a walk to the town centre(which is great after a good meal), but the is a bus which stops outside. There are no lifts, which is understandable. Therefore, those with limited mobility should keep this, and the fact that it's an uphill walk back to the hotel, in mind.

FAQs about hotels in Taormina

The Jewel in the Sicilian Crown

As you admire crystal-clear turquoise seas from a Taormina piazza swathed in vibrant pink blossom, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in paradise. The stunning location of this picturesque town is its crowning glory.

However, it’s not its only glory. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the Greek Theatre is also a triumph. Its largely intact seating offers wonderful views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Spine-tingling summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars also offer live music.

Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, whose clock tower and church are overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.

A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the centre of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. To the south-west is the long stretch of sand at Giardini-Naxos, and north is the bay by Mazzaró.

As you would expect of Sicily’s most beautiful resort, there is no shortage of Taormina accommodation on Booking.com, including 5-star hotels on the beach, town centre apartments and luxury B&Bs.

Taormina is an undeniably beautiful town that captures the charm of Sicily with its stunning views and Greek History. One of the highlights of visiting Taormina is the views one of which is Mount Etna, which serves as a magnificent backdrop to the town. However, it is very pricey and touristy, which can detract from its authenticity and local feel. The town boasts an array of high-end shops and restaurants, catering to visitors seeking luxury and fine dining experiences. It's an excellent place to visit for a day trip, allowing you to soak in the sights, enjoy the upscale ambiance, and perhaps indulge in some shopping. The beaches below Taormina, while picturesque, are primarily reserved for guests staying at the beach resorts. The public areas on these beaches are relatively small and can get crowded and you can be bothered by street vendors, especially during peak tourist season. If you're planning to spend a day at the beach, staying at one of the resorts might offer a more comfortable and exclusive experience. In summary, Taormina is a delightful destination for a day trip, especially if you appreciate high-end shopping and dining, and want to enjoy a stunning view of Mount Etna. However, be prepared for the tourist crowds and limited public beach access.

It is super full of tourists. We were there in late May. During the day, the day trip groups come to the town and it becomes hard to walk on the streets or find a sport in a restaurant. The prices in the restaurants are high.

Taormina is a 'must see' destination and has so much to offer. We visited Savoca nearby whilst staying in Taormina which was a real treat. We also had an excellent dinner one night in Giardini Naxos and were serenaded by a folk group who made the night magical. We will definitely be returning.

A marvellous location and unique natural beauty have earned this city the nickname of Pearl of the Ionian Sea. The distinctive city of Taormina in eastern Sicily is perched on a rock above sea level, with awe-inspiring views over Mount Etna and the coastline. Like many other tourism hotspots, you have to plan carefully to avoid tourist traps and not get stuck in huge crowds.

Loved the location, lots to explore on foot with the Corso Umberto for shopping and eating, the Greek Theatre and the Botanical gardens for a quiet place to reflect and enjoy the views, and a play area for the children. The cable car is worth using to access the beaches which again are well serviced with food, drink and toilet facilities. Fabulous food, Mount Etna on your doorstep and great shopping.

Lovely small hotel a short walk from Taormina town centre. We booked a room with a balcony and sea view which is a must do as the view is fantastic. The room was clean, quiet, roomy and the hotel is conveniently located just a short walk to town. The staff were all friendly and helpful, with some excellent recommendations for local restaurants. Also easy to get to Etna from here if you have your own car, just an hour drive - be sure to book a car park space at the hotel in advance.

Sweet old style hotel that reminds you of the late 90s. Keeps a charm of local hospitality and it is great for its value. The location is good enough - within 10 minutes up the street you will reach the gondola station and then you are almost at the beginning of the walking promenade. The host who checked us in was the loveliest lady in Taormina - she offered us small local drink (very delicious) and explained everything about the city and it's sights. Breakfast comes separately.

The Hotel Villa Belvedere is in the city of Taormina and a stones throw from the Teatro Antico di Taormina and the botanical gardens. Pleasent apartment with great secure parking. Great showers, great heating (we stayed in the off-season), and overall one of the best locations right off the center strip in Taormina. Fast internet for those who work from home, and generally a place with good living space. A nice modern apartment where it's feels like it's a boutique hotel, but doesn't lose its charm. Excellent location, there are few hotels of this kind so well located at the centre of Taormina. Very attentive and helpful staff.

Cute hotel close to Taormina and the train station. A great value with good parking nearby.
